Our restaurant provides a cool contemporary setting that honors the feel of a true paladar. Our restaurant was designed to meld the feel of old-world Cuba with a modern, extremely comfortable ambiance. Paladar is casual yet has an elegant feel. It is a place where you feel you have been invited into a tradiational Havana family home.
Our designer, David Albin, is Chicago-based and has been designing and building residential and commercial spaces for over 20 years. His experience seemed like a perfect match to our goal of improving the function of our restaurant, and totally converting the interior into a warm, comfortable space with the feel of what I remember as “the real Cuba.”
He has visually divided the spaces to create our Rum Bar and our comfortable “Cubano living room” dining room. The two area blend and flow easily. Like families, the spaces are certainly related , yet individual. The aged tin ceiling and warm plaster and paint wall treatment create a warm dining space and a sense of history.
Our dining room reflects Old World Colonialism and our personal family history, as well as reflections of Pre-Castro Cuba… or as my father says, “before Cuba went to s***.” As in any family home, we have gone to great efforts to make sure our friends and guests feel comfortable and welcome before they enjoy our flavors of Cuba.
